TRAINING: CARBINE

What is a Carbine?
The name traces back to the old French word “carabin,” which originally referred to a lightly armed soldier on horseback who carried a shortened firearm. In modern times, a carbine is just a small rifle; often one that is easy to use and fires a pistol-type bullet from a pistol magazine.
Why a Carbine for Home Defense?
LOC’s California Compliant Carbine-of-Choice
We train our clients with the Ruger PC 9mm Backpacker carbine pictured above for two reasons: First, it has a long history of successful police use (in its previous 1980’s wooden stock edition). Second, it is one of the few legal 9mm carbines available in California that is NOT classified as an “assault rifle.”
Ruger PC Carbine Gun Features
It looks rather menacing in the picture, but it is actually quite small and lightweight. (It feels like a kid’s BB gun in your hands.) It takes standard Glock pistol magazines that can be easily loaded with 9mm defense rounds. It breaks down into two sections for easy storage and transport. It fits inside the smallest of long-gun safes.
Course Description
You spend 60 – 90 minutes at our Silverlake studio learning gun safety, handling, and marksmanship with a Ruger PC Carbine. We also teach you a strategy for keeping it at the ready that is both tactically sound and compliant with CA law. Next is live-fire at the Los Angeles Gun Club downtown in the Arts District (approx. 18 minutes away). There you fire 100 rounds with your instructor coaching by your side. We’re confident you will discover just how easy a carbine is to operate and shoot accurately!

“This class was exactly what I needed to get started on looking into purchasing a home defense weapon. David was informative and a good storyteller. Made it easy to learn how to handle, load and unload a weapon. If you are not sure just yet…take the coarse! You won’t regret it!”
