California Firearms Safety Certificate

A Firearms Safety Certificate (FSC) is required to register, purchase, or even borrow a firearm in California. To get yours, you’ll need to pass a 30-question multiple-choice test covering California gun laws and general firearm knowledge. The test costs $25, and your FSC is valid for 5 years under current law. It’s not particularly difficult and most people pass without studying, but we’ve included a link to the state-provided study guide below. Score 23 or higher and Left of Center Gun School will print and laminate your card on the spot. We administer FSC tests by appointment only, and we don’t need much advance notice.
